Venice Farmer's Market

Earth day this week was a great reminder of the amazing things we have access to in California: the beach, the mountains, and the many farmers' markets full of fresh fruits and vegetables. The Venice farmers market on the corner of Ocean Ave. and Venice Blvd. is a small gem worth visiting on Friday mornings (7-11am). The beautiful colors, the smells, and something about shopping outdoors keeps us coming back. Here are a few of our favorite seasonal items.
{Perfect summer snack: Clementines and Tangerines}
{Bok Choy, my favorite for stir frys}
{Beets, great for juicing or in salads}
{Pretty wildflowers}

Hecho en Venice

Last week we had the chance to meet the creator of Hecho en Venice, Oscar Galan. Born in El Salvador, and raised in Venice, Oscar has spent over 30 years immersed in this beach community.

Oscar began his career working at a local surf shop, which at the time was called Bronze Age. After the store's closing, he began Venice Breakwater, being inspired by the surf culture in Venice. The most popular design is the Hecho en Venice logo, though he continues to create new designs to add to his collection. In addition to the super comfy t-shirts, tanks and hoodies, his line also extends to include hats, bags and mugs.

When asked where his office was located, like a true Venice surfer, Oscar answered, "the beach".
You can purchase Hecho en Venice at Ocean Echo Surf Shop located just steps from the Venice Pier on Washington Blvd.

Gunpowder

Last month a new 24/7 tea shop in Venice opened up and we've finally had the chance to check it out! Gunpowder aims to be the go-to place for a coffee alternative, serving tea lattes and fresh juice infused teas. They use a blend of roasted chicory, cacao, dandelion and guayusa for their Gunpowder latte to give the drink an earthy, coffee like taste. We loved their selection of gluten-free baked goods, including a blueberry muffin with pumpkin seeds, and an orange polenta cake with pistachios. The space inside is hip and playful with an area for both work and lounging around.

Gunpowder is located at 202 Main St. Venice, CA 90291

Kale Margarita

  With St. Patrick's day right around the corner and a need to satiate our kale cravings, we experimented with a few recipes. We made a delicious (and dare we say healthy?) green kale margarita. Chef Kelsey Henderson shows us how we can slip some greens into tequila to put a spin on an old favorite. Feel free to experiment by adding different citrus juices to your liking!
